Building Bridges to the Local is our initiative to support statewide and down-ballot candidates around the country. While removing President Trump from the White House was essential to the survival of our democracy, we cannot forget that local elected leaders have the most direct impact on their communities as they provide many services, from education to public safety and healthcare, that impact our daily lives. Therefore, Building Bridges is mobilizing our volunteers and utilizing our platform to support the local candidates for office who will bring courageous and constructive leadership to their office. We select our featured candidates based on two primary criteria:

1. Do they represent our organization's vision for this country and lead in accordance with our stated values? 

2. Are they running for office in a competitive district or state, such that their victory could have a larger impact on the outcome of other statewide and national elections?
   
   *Special consideration given candidates who have or will interact with our members and volunteers as a guest on the Book Club or Grassroots Discussion Series.

 

We support our selected candidates through three primary actions which are carried out for each candidate over the course of a weeklong feature:

1. We promote them through our social media channels to raise awareness for their campaign and solicit donations to support their election.

2. We conduct direct voter outreach on their behalf through our postcard writing events and Days of Action.

3. We recruit grassroots volunteers to work with in their own communities, online and in person, to continuously promote the candidate and actively work towards winning their election.
